John & Sue's Greek Odyssey

There are numerous small supermarkets and greengrocers selling seasonal fruit & vegetables. There are butcher shops selling various cut of meat – sometimes it is hard to identify the animal – a Greek phrasebook comes in handy for translation purposes. Only buy fresh produce in quantities you can use before it starts to go off – our cool box is not the same as a deep freeze.

Block Ice Lasts 6 days

Demesteca Wine Very drinkeable and reasonably priced (Less than 5 Euro for 1.5 litres)

Lettuce Lasts a whole week

Bread Good when fresh – goes stale quickly – then you’re in for eggy or garlic bread

Long Life Milk Lasts for ages – even after opening.

Tinned potatoes Sue stowed some on the boat and they are very versatile – unfortunately we haven’t been able to find any over here – we’ll keep looking.

Tinned anything We have stopped being foodies and have come to the conclusion that “tinned food is good food”

Levkas Wine We found an old grocer in Vlikho who gave us some local red wine – it was very good – so we bought 5 litres of it.
